Various tests, such as blood tests and ultrasound scans, will be offered to you throughout your pregnancy. These tests are used to look for anything that could create an issue during or after your pregnancy
You are not required to take the tests. However, you must understand the aim of the tests you will be offered in order to make an informed decision about whether or not to take them. You should talk to your maternity team about these, and you should be given written information about the screening tests available.
Dimensions of weight and height
Your weight will be taken at your scheduling session, but not on a regular basis during your pregnancy. Your BMI is calculated using your height and weight (body mass index). Women who are overweight for their height are more likely to experience complications during pregnancy.
The majority of women gain between 11 and 16 kilogrammes during pregnancy, with the majority of it occurring after 20 weeks. The baby's growth accounts for much of the extra weight, but your body also stores fat for generating breast milk after the birth. It's critical to eat the correct foods and exercise regularly when pregnant.
Urine
At your antenatal appointments, you'll be asked to provide a urine sample. Protein and albumin are among the substances that are tested in your urine. If you have this in your urine, you may have an infection that has to be treated. It could also be an indication of pre-eclampsia, which is caused by pregnancy-induced hypertension. The urine is also examined for the presence of sugar, which could indicate gestational diabetes.
Blood pressure is a measurement of how high or low
At each antenatal visit, your blood pressure will be taken. Later in pregnancy, a rise in blood pressure could be a symptom of pregnancy-induced hypertension. Your blood pressure is likely to be lower in the middle of your pregnancy than it is at other periods. This isn't a problem, but if you get up too soon, you can feel dizzy. If you're concerned, go to your midwife or doctor.
Tests on the blood
Several blood tests will be offered to you during your pregnancy. Your blood group, Rhesus (RhD) factor, iron levels, gestational diabetes, and infections are among them.

Cervical Screening Test (Cervical Screening)
The two-yearly Pap test has been superseded with the Cervical Screening Test. This test detects human papillomavirus (HPV), a common virus that can modify cells in your cervix and, in rare situations, lead to cervical cancer, more accurately than Pap tests.
The first Cervical Screening Test is scheduled two years after the last Pap test for most women aged 25 to 74. If their results are normal, they will only need to get the test every 5 years after that.
When their routine Cervical Screening Test is due, pregnant women should have it done. Women can get their Cervical Screening Test at any point during their pregnancy, according to the National Cervical Screening Program, as long as the proper equipment is used.
Streptococcus group B
GBS, also known as group B strep, is a bacteria that is carried by up to 30% of people but rarely causes harm or symptoms. It's found in the colon and vaginal canal in women and isn't a concern during most pregnancies. It does, however, infect the infant in a small percentage of pregnancies. This can happen right before or during labour, and it can cause major health problems.
If you've already had a GBS-infected baby, antibiotics should be administered to you during labour to lessen the risk of your new baby contracting the illness.
If you had a group B streptococcal urinary tract infection (cystitis) during your pregnancy, antibiotics should be provided during labour.
If you had a group B streptococcal urinary tract infection (cystitis) during your pregnancy, antibiotics should be provided during labour. To test for this bacteria, obtain a swab from just inside the vaginal opening. At 36 weeks, this is frequently done. If the test is positive, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics for you to take throughout labour.
